Competitive Coach Selection Policy
Purpose
This policy establishes a fair, transparent process for selecting competitive coaching
staff. Individual coaching appointments are made by the Director of Coaching and
Competitive Coordinator; this policy governs the selection process and criteria.

completed application submitted by the mid-March deadline.

• Availability and commitment level
• Coaching philosophy and player development approach
• Preferred age group(s) and child(s) name (if applicable)

Standard Selection Process
The Director of Coaching and Competitive Coordinator will review all applications and
assign coaching staff to age groups based on:
• Coach qualifications and experience• Age group needs and team structure
• Overall program balance and development
Coaching assignments will be communicated before tryouts to allow coaching staffs
time to prepare for tryouts.
Multiple Teams per Age Group
When multiple teams are formed within an age group, the DOC and Comp
Coordinator will work with coaches to determine appropriate team assignments. In
most cases, coaches will be able to reach agreement on team structure and
assignments through collaborative discussion.
If consensus cannot be reached, the conflict resolution process outlined below will be
used to make final assignments.
Team assignments will consider:
• Coaching qualifications and experience
• Player development approach and team needs
• Program balance considerations
The goal is to ensure both teams have qualified coaching staff and appropriate
competitive placement.
Conflict Resolution Process
If the DOC and Comp Coordinator cannot reach consensus on a coaching assignment,
or if either has a conflict of interest, the decision will be made by a three-person
selection panel.
Panel Composition:
The panel will consist of three individuals selected from the following (in priority order),
excluding anyone with a conflict of interest:
1. Director of Coaching
2. Competitive Coordinator
3. Technical Director
4. Neutral board member (no child in affected age group)
The panel may interview applicants if needed and will make the final decision on
coaching assignments.
Conflict of Interest
Any decision-maker with a child in the affected age group or a personal relationship
with an applicant that would compromise objectivity must recuse themselves from the
selection process.Finality of Decisions
Coaching assignment decisions made by the DOC and Comp Coordinator, or by the
selection panel in cases of conflict, are final. Coaches who are not selected for their
preferred position may be offered alternative coaching opportunities within the club.
